Elzetta AR-15 Flashlight Mount - black

Starting at: $29.95

What flashlights will work with the Elzetta ZFH1500?  Each Elzetta ZFH1500 comes with Sizing Adapters, giving the Flashlight Holder the ability to mount flashlights from 0.7 to 1.1 inches in diameter (18 to 28 mm).  This includes such popular flashlights as the Mini-MagLite®, PentagonLight®, Inova®, Streamlight®, Pelican®, Laser Devices®,  and many SureFire®  models.

What advantage does the Thumb Screw offer?  The Thumb Screw allows flashlights to be installed and removed rapidly and without tools.  It also provides a more robust clamping mechanism while retaining the nut on the device.  The Thumb Screw Model is highly recommended.

Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 fit rifles equipped with a bayonet lug?  Yes, the ZFH1500 is designed to fit around the standard bayonet lug.  In fact, the bayonet lug adds strength to the flashlight holder assembly.

Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 hold a Laser?  Yes, the Elzetta ZFH1500 can be used to mount any cylindrical accessory with an outer diameter of 0.7 to 1.1 inches (18 to 28 mm).

What material is the ZFH1500 Flashlight Holder made from? The Elzetta ZFH1500 is made from a glass-filled polymer.

What are the advantages of this material?  This glass-filled polymer provides outstanding durability, impact resistance, scratch resistant, and light weight.  It also withstands high temperatures, vibration, and most chemicals.

How much does the Elzetta ZFH1500 weigh?  The Flashlight Holder with hardware weighs only 2.8 oz (79 g).

Will attaching a sling on the front sling swivel interfere with the use of the ZFH1500?  No, Elzetta designed the ZFH1500 to work in various configurations.  When the flashlight is mounted rearward (with the tailcap exposed), the sling swivel (with or without a sling attached) will activate the push-button switch of the flashlight.  When the flashlight is mounted with the tatilcap recessed into the ZFH1500 body, the push-button switch is protected from the sling swivel while the tailcap of the flashlight is still accessible through the skeleton hole in the ZFH1500 body.

Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 work with a heavy barrel (HBAR)?  Yes, the ZFH1500 was designed around the standard HBAR and will work with any barrel that has a diameter of 0.75 inch (19mm) or less at the front sight base.

Will my AR15 fit in its storage case when fitted with an Elzetta ZFH1500 Flashlight Holder?  Yes, the ZFH1500's center line mounting position preserves the slim profile of the AR15 rifle, allowing storage in most gun cases.

Will the Elzetta ZFH1500 fit an Airsoft Rifle?  Yes, the ZFH1500 will fit many Airsoft AR15/M4 replica rifles.  Some may require minor modification.

Where is the Elzetta ZFH1500 made?  Every ZFH1500 Flashlight Holder is designed, engineered, and Made in the USA using American tooling and American made thermoplastic resins.

7 July 2008

The ZFH1500 is a tactical light mount designed to be installed on an AR-15 type rifle. Upon examination of the Elzetta ZFH1500, I found it to be constructed of lightweight glass-filled nylon. The sample I evaluated was OD green and also comes in black. This light mount accepts cylindrical flashlights with diameters from .07 to 1.1 inches (18 to 28 mm). The mount is supplied with an adjustable set of spacing clips which can be cut or filed to adjust to various lights.

So, before I installed the light mount, I laid out all of the pieces and found that this would be an easy install. The mount itself is in two halves that are bolted together. There are four hex bolts with nuts provided. Two of bolts go in the top and two in the bottom of the mount. I found that the kit was supplied with an extra hex bolt and nut which would be especially handy if one part was lost. The only tool necessary for the install was one hex wrench that was provided in the kit.

The ZFH1500 mounts to the front sight post and encases the bayonet lug for rifles so equipped. I installed the two halves together, placing them in each side if the barrel. Next, I placed the four bolts in the light mount and tightened them up. This took about five minutes to install. I then installed the flashlight adjustment bolt. This bolt has a convenient thumb wheel to allow for the operator to change out flashlights without any special tools. This mount can be easily removed by reversing the installation procedures and could then be installed on another rifle.

Next I installed a flashlight for a trip to the range. The light I chose to use for this test was a Surefire 6P. All I had to do was slide the flashlight into the mount, check for proper adjustment and tighten down the thumb wheel. This particular light did not require the sizing clips to be installed.

While at the range, I conducted a series of CQB reduced light drills. While maneuvering through the course and around barriers, I found no trouble in using the light in the momentary mode. The flashlight was turned on by placing forward pressure on the front sling mount which in turn activated the tailcap switch of the flashlight. It was clear although the best way to go would be to replace the tailcap switch with a remote switch that would then be attached to the handgaurds. By going this route, the operator would be able to utilize various slings and carrying options that would not interfere with the tailcap switch. During the range drills the flashlight stayed securely fastened in the mount and provided and overall sturdy design. I had no trouble activating the flashlight when necessary while moving through the courses of fire. While a bit slower to manipulate, the flashlight could be placed in the constant on mode for situations dictating that tactic to be employed. I also found the mount to be low profile in design which attributes to maintaining precise weapon handling.

In closing, I found the Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Holder to be a cost effective but rugged solution for mounting a tactical flashlight for use on an AR-15 type rifle.

Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Holder and Picatinny Rail Kit (AR15/M16/M4).

The Bottom Line
Elzetta's ZFH1500 Tactical Light Holder is a good, tough product. A hex wrench is included for installation, which went smoothly for me. The hardest part was removing the side mount sling swivel from my Rock River rifle. Once that was done, the rest was a breeze. After that, I added the picatinny rail, which was just as easy, with the hardest part being handling the tiny nuts with my fingers, which seem to get clumsier every day.
Installation was fast and easy, and in no time I had it mounted on my rifle with a Surefire G2 Nitrolon flashlight, which is a perfect match to the Elzetta design.

Pros
Glass-filled Nylon polymer is tough and light.
Obviously made stronger than it needs to be.
Styled to match my Rock River Entry Tactical well.
Includes adapters for smaller-diameter flashlights such as Mini-MagLite.
Made in USA.
Cons
Required the removal of my side mount sling swivel.
No hex wrench included with picatinny rail kit (no biggie).
Description
Tactical flashlight holder for AR15, M16, M4 rifles.
Mounts by clamping to the barrel inside the standard front sight base.
May require removal of other accessories. I had to remove a side mount sling swivel from my rifle to use this light holder.
Available in 3 different colors: black, olive drab, and "dark earth" (which is tan, if you ask me).
Tough glass-filled Nylon construction. The holder with hardware weighs just 2.8 ounces.
Will hold flashlights from 0.7" to 1.1" diameter. So even your old Mini-MagLite will work.
I tested it with a Surefire G2 Nitrolon light, which fits and works well.
Guide Review - Elzetta ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight Holder and Picatinny Rail Kit (AR15/M16/M4).
When someone knocks on your virtual door and offers to hand you a new shooting product to test, abuse, drag through the dirt, etc, what do you say? Good manners would dictate a polite reply, and mine was along the lines of, "Yes, please."
Very soon afterward, Dave Barnett again contacted me and said they had just changed the design in response to "a couple of complaints." It now fits lighter barrels better. Sounds like a very responsive company, interested in making the best possible product.

The included hardware and hex wrench are also of high quality, and the wrench is even marked Made in USA! I think we have all seen the aftermath a poor-quality hex wrench can leave behind due to its lousy fit, but you don't have to worry about it with Elzetta.

The picatinny rail kit includes a short rail of the same glass-filled material, and two longer bolts with nuts to replace the top pair of bolts on the light holder. No wrench is included, but since you got one with your light holder, you don't need another one. It installed quickly and easily, and now I'm all set to mount all kinds of ridiculous items to my gun.

This holder positions the light under the barrel, with the rear end of the light under the front sight base. On my rifle, that allows the standard sling swivel to contact the tailcap light switch on the Surefire. This makes a good momentary-on switch for me. I left the light's tailcap hanging out of the Elzetta a little so I have the option of turning it to switch the light on.

I inspected the adapters that allow the use of smaller-diameter lights in this mount, and I'm as impressed with them as I am with the mount itself. It's not every day that you see molded parts fit together so well and precisely. I kept looking for something to dislike, but I couldn't find it.

This is a good product.
